On our recent Mexican cruise, we were pleased to find out there would be a total lunar eclipse one night when we were on the ocean. For once we weren't going to have to worry about cloud cover or the mountains cutting off the view.

I never have had much luck seeing celestial events unless they lasted a long time like the Hale-Bopp comet. In 1997 it was visible in the Denver sky, even with all the light pollution for several months, and every night I poked my head out the front door and said hello to it. Even if I never see another comet, I'll always remember that one for being so user friendly.

The worst luck I have is with than annual meteor shower in August that is supposed to be like fire works there are so many falling stars. On occasion I have made up my mind to give it a fair shot, stood out in the dark hopefully, and not seen anything out of the ordinary. Maybe next time.

Great shot of the eclipse and the comet. I have never been lucky at seeing such things. When the shapeship was disintegrating that hit Nagodoches, I lived in Dallas. Forgot to go outside to watch it, even though many people in Dallas got unforgettable, terrible shots of that moment.
Absolutely gorgeous and beautiful and wonderful.
I love celestial events but am usually asleep when they happen. Oh, well.
Freaking great pictures. I live in the heart of the city with all of the lights and like to sleep at that time. Thanks for posting the pictures for all to enjoy.

I can't take credit - the pictures came from the Internet, but they look like what I saw.
