Winter Showers Bring Spring Flowers

March 10, 2008 / by troutbend

The other day we drove out to Death Valley (near the Funeral Mountains) to see the wildflowers. They are the best they've been in a couple of years, the result of winter moisture.

The Patch of Heaven camp redefined my concept of heaven.

The shot of the flowers was lovely, but the terrain looks pretty desolate overall.

Definitely desolate. The main thing is that it is just great this time of year - 70 degrees, flowers. But come summer, it's 120 degrees and a long way in between interesting scenery.

I would love to see the desert and Ed thinks he could live there  so long as there was a terrific little town nearby.  I agreewith s'grad.  It looks rather moonlike.

He should try it some time for a month or more and see what he thinks. Everywhere has its good points, some more than others. We enjoy the low humidity, but antiques from other parts of the country just dry up and fall apart.

Yes, but there's something ethereal about the landscape. I enjoy the diversity from my boring green grass!

It's definitely worth seeing, and a change, but I like it best in short doses in the spring and winter.

The desert grows on  you and you learn to love it.
